    I have made a 3 layered hair texture spray, with two layers being silicone and water and third being fumed silica, which settles over time after application/use of the product. So most likely you would have to find a powder or colored beads to form that third layer

    Try using Oleocraft MP-32 (INCI:Polyamide-3) from croda, or Oilkemia 5S (INCI:Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (and) Polyurethane-79 from Lubrizol, latter one is expensive

    Try Laneth-15 or Dimethicone

    @prow18

    • Run a moisture analysis on Crew product. Compare your water content with the benchmark.
    •  Get a sample of Steareth-10, it has different oligomeric distribution than Stereath-2 and Stereath-21

    @prow18 is this a hair curl cream formula? Anyway, I recommend using a blend of ethoxylated emulsifiers, due to their oligomeric distribution they provide very stable emulsions. For example; use a blend like Steareth-2, Stereath-10 & Steareth-21, each at 2.5% in your case. This should do it

    @TheJ
    Arianor Basic dyes from Sensient, I have used these in color leave in conditioner, stains you hands
    https://www.sensient-cosmetics.com/segment/hair-color-care/
    I believe charcoal should do it, try adding a binding agent, magnesium Stearate at 2% in your formulation

    @ifamuj Use a blend of Ethoxylated non ionic emulsifiers, you would get very stable emulsion. For example use Oleth-5, Oleth-10 & Oleth-23 at equal amounts

    In hydrolyzed beeswax, huge ester molecules are broken/hydrolyzed by acid or base, resulting in formation of smaller fatty acids and alcohols molecules. This would change the texture of finished in comparison to regular beeswax benefits including reduced tackiness, faster absorption, light feel. I have not worked with hydrolyzed beeswax, but you can batch with both and see the differences yourself

    Ninol CAA is secondary surfactant provides structure/thickens it. I have had an issue similar to what your are describing, it was fixed by mixing for longer duration(use Sweep Mix). Lamesoft PO65 requires mixing for long as its clump. If still cant fix it, direct message me

    • During what step of batching you start to see sedimentation? Attach a picture of your batch with sedimentation

    Hey Padmavathi,

    • what level(%) are you using PQ-73? Try removing it
    • try adding Ninol CAA(DIMETHYL LAURAMIDE / MYRISTAMIDE)

    see if this fixes it

    It is an cationic surfactant  (positively charged), 1-2 % in leave products formulation should be fine, higher amounts possibly cause irritation

    I have made a shampoo with those two surfactants, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate  and Cocamidopropyl Betaine in ratio 2:1, probably will need secondary surfactant to thicken the product.

  • @Landmark
    I believe what inspector might be saying is you need to time for each step on production batch sheets. For example; lets says you are making a batch of shampoo:
    Step 1: add 1500kg of water
    For this step, you need to have start time and end time. Start time: 9:00AM, when you started pumping water, lets say  End Time:10:30 AM Once you are done pumping water
    Step 2: Add 100kg of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Start Time: 10:40AM End Time: 11:00AM
    Basically you need to have duration of each step mentioned in your batching record, there is no limit how long you want to mix it

    @gilac I work with sunscreens. For suspension of 35% pigment, you might want to go with polyhydroxy stearic acid (1.2%) to prevent agglomeration and SPF enhancement. Silica to thicken Oil Phase might affect the texture of finished product, you might want to use Ethylcellulose as thickener.
    What is your target SPF 30 or 40?

    December 10, 2020 at 12:45 pm in reply to: Air freshener formulation

    @Fekher I have worked on an Air Freshener using PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil as solubilizer. To solubilize a fragrance, the ratio of fragrance to solubilizer atleast be 1:4, if you are solubilizing an essential oil, then you would need even more solubilizer. Adding more solubilizer to your current formulation would make you air freshener too foamy.
    In my opinion, you need to decrease your fragrance levels and  you can add ethanol to solubilize the fragrance and decrease foam

    @Abdullah

    • Problem with your formulation is stabilization of oil particles, both of your emulsifiers are nonionic. Try adding another Cationic( Distearyldimonium Chloride) or anionic(sodium stearoyl Glutamate) emulsifier for charge stabilization

    @Newtoformulating You can try disiloxane, I have used it in texture sprays to comply with VOC restrictions, it has higher volatility than ethanol and leaves no residue. The only downside is cost

    @Abdullah since your making making a cream/lotion, it does not matter. 5cst has higher spreadability, but  I would go with whichever one is cheaper

    @Abdullah you could try

    • Dimethicone 10cst
    • Trisiloxane 1cst
    • D5(okay for North America, banned in Europe)

    D5 is really good, have used in sunscreen lotions with waxes

    Use a blend of ethoxylated non ionic emulsifiers, Example use
    Blend of Oleth-4, Oleth-10 and Oleth-20 in equal ratio amount, most of the time ethoxylates will do the job

    I have used Hotflux in heat spray at 0.50%, its miscible in Oil, only problem you might encounter be browning/ yellowing of your product overtime, due to vanillin
