Brilliant, I think i have some Dowanol - I will give it a try at say 5 and 10% (looks like that would cost me very little per bottle at those levels!)

    Thanks!

I am loathed to Ozgirl as it will increase expense and currently we quote a ‘alcohol free formula’ as it is an insect repellent I don’t want too much volatility.

I am open minded to it though, I stock IPA do you think that would work and what concentration would you propose?

PEG-40 is so close, I wonder if I just need a co-surfactant… as long as it does not increase viscoscity or allows me to use less PEG. Any ideas?

    Hi Matt,

opacity is obligatory with this one i think!
PEG-40 is not too far off, we get a more opaque milky layer under a less opaque one. SO it is close.
PS-60 was the next best but separated overnight.
Have dropped Fiberstar a line to see if I can get a sample.
    Cheers,
    Sam
  • Polysorbate 20 worked fairly well, am leaving it to see if oil settles out overnight.

  • Now there is a new word for me chemicalmatt: thixotropic… interesting because where I say ‘sugar syrup’ I actually mean honey which on researching i discover can also have a thixotrophic nature (and presumably an unreliable one as it is a natural ingredient) I think this may be tricky,,,

Alas Xanthan does not seem to work well with the end cosistency.
I need something I can add to make the end product more reliable in it’s consistency, as the clays and honeys used in it are unlikely to be 100% reliable. I will double check with my clay supplier what I am using, maybe I need to seek a supplier that it supplying a more pure form as the honey is out of my hands.
Cheers! Will post formula if I am feeling brave MakingSkincare!
  • Whoops, sorry it kept saying post not made!

Have Polysorbate 20, c/c/ glucoside, decyl glucoside on the way to try. Avoiding PEG-40 as it is such a pig to work with.
    Fingers crossed!
  • Wow! Thankyou, lots to try!
