It is true that 0.2% is not the lowest concentration but neither the highest. Did you try both at the same time at a lower concentration?

MemberAugust 10, 2018 at 6:50 pm in reply to: CMV - Skin care customization is mostly just marketing hypeWell, marketing is more enough to start a new product but in this case, I think there are a few couples of interesting things.
- I agree that most of the standard products are enough if they are well addressed but this is the problem, they only address the most common group of people. For example, most of the antiaging products are for dry skin. What about oily skin mature people? They may have some alternatives but most of the formulas will not be a good fit, even fewer chances if a person of oily skin would like to have specific actives ingredients.
- What about individual differences? This argument was told before about acne but this also applicable to skin care actives. What if a person is intolerant to glycolic acid but not to salicylic? To look for the same formula (combination of active ingredients/treatment, texture, skin type) with only a different exfoliant could be almost impossible… and so on.
Well, my contribution to the forum after a while

Hi @MakingSkincare Sorry for the late reply. I have not been in the forum for a while and I did not receive the mail notification :S
I finally bought the Silverson L5M-A. I am quite happy with him, He is strong enough and very versatile if need it thanks to all the accessories you could have. Having a Silverson is a quality guarantee and more people can offer you support because it is a wide used brand. It is a hard machine and I hope it will be with me almost the rest of my professional life -

MemberSeptember 13, 2016 at 10:15 am in reply to: Pharma& Cosmetic Industry in Switzerland, EuropeWelcome to that beautiful country!! If you speak french (if not use goofle translater) you can use this web (they offer free advices but also paid services):
https://www.travailler-en-suisse.ch/emploi-suisse/dossier-candidature/lettre-de-motivation-suisse
French and German languages (in addition to English) are very important there so if you know them, make a point of that.
Keep in mind the Swiss people are very hard working and quite “strict-serious” people during the job.Good luck!

MemberAugust 28, 2016 at 11:16 am in reply to: Ethoxydiglycol: Why is it used in Vitamin C serums?Normally it is used as penetration enhancer. There are studies that shows that AA can penetrate the skin but i didn´t see the % of AA that actually penetrate. You say AA can do it without any issue at ph<3… There is any study that shows 100% AA penetrates easily so there is not need of penetration enhancers or at least there is not improvement?
In the other hand I have to say i didn´t read neither any study that shows how Ethoxydiglycol helps to AA so I would be interesting to read it if you have it.I have in my “to-read list” this patent. Maybe it can help:

@Perry If you create it (you should own the file as you are the only 100% sure permanent member here), I would happily add my raw material/supplier list with their prices.
Something like this?:
Material (INCI) / price&quantity 1/ price per Kg or L 1/ Link-supplier 1/ price-quantity 2/ price per Kg 2/ Link-supplier 2/ ….
That was the format that I used.I think it would be more efficient to limit this list to small quantities. Bigger quantities is another world, huge and thousands of prices depending on purchase volume. It would be a good resource for your cosmetic formulation course too
-
Thanks BartJ,
In this moment I don´t need such quantity as my interest is for small lab test batches ( but thank you anyway
).
I finally have make different orders, 2 of them in UK (naturally thinking and gracefruit too)
For example: I got glyceryl Stearate for 6 pounds vat included (a good price taking in consideration that you can order 1 kg) here: http://www.naturallythinking.com/glyceryl-stearate.htmlIf case someone is interested that web (naturallythinking) have good prices in some products but they are, with difference, the slowest in logistics (I already have received the rest of my orders but they did not even prepared my order yet)

Good explanation and I am agree that it is not practical to list “all” the ingredients forming a mixture but I was surprise as SDS of stearic acid used to be in most of retailers 55/60-40/45 stearic-palmitic. Nothing “residual”….anyway it is like you said: more than 50%…
Thanks!
-
Thanks @Perry . I understand that, but why INCI is described as stearic acid if it is a blend?
I also have read a lot of INCI cosmetic products (final products) just listing stearic acid but not palmitic acid or any other fatty acid. Is that means that they used a pure version (i dont think so) or INCI is incorrect in that products?as example, in lotion crafter they list a blend of palmitic-stearic just as stearic (you can even read INCI: stearic acid):
http://www.lotioncrafter.com/stearic-acid-nf.html
But it is not just lotioncrafter. There is a big tendency to do this with Stearic acid
-
whow, In spain I can not imagine to find it in such an easy way.
About the list: We could add the country (shipping cost are not a problem is we could safe so much money). About keeping up to date: small variations in price would be a minor problem if people could safe so much…. If for example your manufacturer increase a 100% the price, I would be very happy. In adittion, just having a list of “small quantities retailers” who offer a good price would be nice.
It is my opinion…
-
where do you buy at those prices? I have made a lot of research and that shop was the most affordable I found buying so small quantities as 1 kg (for example, makingcosmetics price is 20$/kg!!).
I think we should make a list with ingredients/prices/where to buy them (at least the most commons)
@Perry Why not to create a google drive/similiar excel sheet where someone can add the datas? Even if prices can be outdate sometimes, It could be an extraordinary resource for most of us.

Correct. Sorry, I meant surfactants are affected
-
EDTA is a quelant agent ( it binds free metal ions). Metal ions can affect the formula and using EDTA you can protect the formula from them. For example: preservatives are affected by free metal ions.
-
Here there are some experts than may orientate you but i think it will help them to know some requirements/specifications. Not all formulations have the same dificulty/time requirements

Wow @Bobzchemist if i would live in your city I would invite you to a drink to thank you your work here in the forum

It was suppose to have a good performance in most of climate conditions.

Thanks both!
@Microformulation : true, carbomer was the first raw material I tought about… I never tried but I suppose most structure-dependent materials are affected, Isn´t it? Some guide-line?@bobzchemist : good point. I do not have experience in semisolids scale-up,
Could you please tell us what are those scale-up equipment equivalences:
Overhead stirrer->large-scale equipment pieces
Homogenizer ->large-scale equipment piecesIt would be a valuable resource to have this relation.
-
I have already order a Silverson homogenizer (L5M-A) (10-12 weeks to deliver it…).
Now I am wondering I there is any situation where I will need an overhead stirrer insted the homogenizer. In this moment I only plan to do emulsions and gels (different viscosities from very low to medium viscosity) and maybe (just maybe) some solutions.
Any situation where a overhead stirrer will be needed? Budget is just OK.For example:
- if I need to do a suspension in some gel… in this case maybe homogenizers will reduce to much the particle size for some suspension forms?
- Some type of gels where homogenizer is not recomended because of gel structure…
