    Try dissolving the PEG-150 in your water and Cocoamidopropyl Betaine. Then add the other surfactants once it’s cooled to 50 degrees or below. What percentage are you adding the PEG-150?

    @EVchem sent them numerous emails with no single reply. I then called them a week ago and they said they don’t offer small pack sizes. Not sure why they would false advertise.

    Thanks @sven . I’ve asked René and he says they are busy with agreements to appoint a Repacker. This should be finalized by end of the year. While I wait for that process to be finalized, I need elsewhere to buy small quantities

    @ngarayeva001 it’s quite easy to prepare. I used an overhead stirrer with a paddle attachment.

    @EVchem that’s the foam I got when tested washing my hands. The results are much different on curly hair or on a shower/bath luffa. Here’s an image of the foam.

    @UsmanAli you can also look at Marlinat 242/90 MC by Sasol Performance Chemicals. I just found they take long to respond to sample requests.

    @Perry this is a sulfate shampoo. Plantapon® AF is a mixture of alkyl ether sulfate, citric acid ester of ethoxylated fatty alcohol and nonionic emulsifier. Read about it here https://www.ulprospector.com/documents/1312918.pdf?bs=804&b=91858&st=20&r=eu&ind=personalcare

    @Pharma nope it’s not. It’s an oil shampoo. Looks and feels like an oil on contact with skin. Foams when water is added to it. See image below.

    I made an oil shampoo 2years ago you can try out. It’s a high foam shampoo that leaves hair clean and soft. Here’s the formulation;

    Plantapon AF 56.4

    Soybean Oil 21

    CCT 15

    Castor Oil 5

    Herbal Extract 0.5

    Hydrolyzed Protein 1

    Sodium Benzoate 0.5

    Antioxidant 0.1

    Fragrance 0.5

    Method of manufacture

    1. Add the following well;
    1. Plantapon AF, Soybean Oil, CCT, Castor Oil & Fragrance
  • Pre mix the following until uniform
    1. Herbal extract, Hydrolysed Protein, Antioxidant & Sodium Benzoate
  • Add to surfactant batch and mix well

    @Pharma thank you. When going through the EU Regulation, what concerns me is the likeliness of skin irritation. I won’t even waste my time asking for a sample of this.

    Might have to scrap the idea of using xanthan gum since it doesn’t play well with cationics

    Thanks @Doreen. Let me try another batch with reduced cetearyl and a polymer. I’ll actually make 2 batches; 1 with cetearyl alcohol & xanthan gum, and another with cetyl alcohol & a cationic guar gum.

    Thanks for the suggestion @Perry. Do you have a Supplier in mind? I requested a sample from Bio-Botanica via UlProspector months ago and I haven’t received any response. We don’t have a reputable supplier locally.

    I’m not sure if you’ve completely abandoned the use of the peg-150, but I think I’ve found a solution. I tried a sodium hydroxide solution and it worked in decreasing the viscosity but the pH went way high even with just a little added. So I scrapped that. Then I thought maybe I should use the salt-curve method. I initially thought salt would further thicken the formulation but it actually sort of worked. I added salt at .5% increments. Luckily it didn’t require lots of salt to decrease viscosity. So for the 0.3 peg-150 I used I only needed 1% salt for my desired viscosity. Try it to see if it works.
