Well apparently, Shea butter doesn’t agree to be mixed with anything and kept for use… It is usually called a “diva ” ingredient , it doesn’t want to be mixed with anything, so when I double boiled with alpha arbutin and used to double cleanse my face ,I noticed a reaction on my neck and collarbone

@ngarayeva001 I can only get L’ascorbic acid here in Nigeria hence my adding goji berry liquid.. .I hope goji is stable to work with when preservatives is added?

Also, adding e-wax to a vitamin c serum, is that ideal plus e-wax works at hot phase and I don’t think heating vitamin e oil is good since it could degrade it or what do u think?

Then adding two kinds of preservatives, germall plus and phynoxyethanol, is this okay?

Lastly, mixing ferulic acid with alcohol, can I use rubbing alcohol? And when I add phynoxyethanol, hope it won’t be too much?

Shea butter darkens most people of color, I once added alpha arbutin on a double boiler and kept for use and I got a contact dermatitis

Reading this, I decided to alert u to what I intend to use for my vitamin c serum, I want it to be choke full of antioxidants, pine bark extract, licorice root extract, guava leaves extract, sandalwood powder extract, neem leaf extract, a teeny bit of Matcha and regular green tea extract, ascorbic acid, goji berry 4000mg liquid, Hyaluronic acid, allantoin, niacinamide and I’m thinking should I add ferulic acid but since it dissolves in alcohol and this might be drying, should I just skip it?

I would like to add vitamin e as well and a bit of glycerin but thinking they won’t mix well with water… How do I go about this?

Also do I mix both germall plus and phynoxyethanol as preservatives since it is water based . .is this line of ingredients ideal or would it be a waste of time or what ingredients should I tweak and what should I add… More as a stable antioxidant. thanks.

@ngarayeva001 so alpha arbutin is both soluble in water and oil? Cos I intend using in a soap that has oil as part of its ingredients . Oh and for NAG, how do I get it please ,I intend formulating  a toner and serum and need the niacinamide to work effectively.

Learnt ferulic acid helps to prolong its shelf life for a bit longer than normal

I also did same formulation of green tea extract, allantoin, niacinamide and Hyaluronic acid @Belassi @Perry and same thing happened, it went bad and the Hyaluronic acid de-gelled. So how’s the best way to preserve a Hyaluronic acid serum without de-gelling and turning to water? Would ethanol and germall plus be enough ?without adding green tea of course.

But how do products claiming to have green tea manage to stabilise theirs or is it just a marketing lingo

So using the above named ingredients guys, how can I formulate a product that doesn’t go bad and effective please?  Saying I’m working with 100ml bottle for instance, how much preservative does it need?

I didn’t do a preservative efficacy test, how is that done?  I only added germall plus ,a few drops I’m told is effective enough so.  Then I doubt the raw materials were contaminated.
