MemberMay 2, 2023 at 11:12 pm in reply to: How can I improve my hair conditioner for humid conditions? Thanks for the input! I added a little more dimethicone and it took care of it. Only other issue I’m having is a little bit of static. I’ve been experimenting with ph between 5.5 and 3.9. The lower ph was a little bit better with static but still had some that was a little annoying. Anyone have any ideas that could help? Appreciate it!

Thank you! Do you ever use behentrimonium chloride or always prefer btms?

You should not mix those two together. Remove Stearic acid, increase Cetearyl alcohol and see.Not sure how much you heat your formula and when you add Cyclopentasiloxane but it is volatile, so .. I guess no point to have it in it?
(Perhaps if something “survives” the heat it might get trapped in the bar and work .. not sure. You will probably have batch to batch changes)Perfect, thank you for the great advice! Will take out stearic acid. I heat melted ingredients to 160 f and then remove from heat, add all other ingredients minus the Cyclopentasiloxane and then add that right at the very end. I’ll try it with and without to see if it’s making a difference. Thanks!

It’s possibly damaged and needs to be repaired - proteins, polyquats, etc …Hope this helps a bit
This is helpful, thank you!

Doesn’t take much either even though it’s supplied at 10% active.Thank you! I have some on hand so I’ll try it out.

Could you try one sample wothout BTMS?Yes, I’ll try that, thank you.

Thank you, will do!

Paprik said:I am a bit worried about you mixing anionic (SCI, Stearic acid, SLSa) with cationic (BTMS). Especially if you will melt it and pour it.
You can probably reduce Panthenol, it only adds to the cost and will be washed down the drain. So will probably the extract. The main ingredients would be anionics, P-7 for conditioning and … yeah
Thank you! I will keep this all in mind. Waiting on a couple ingredients so once I receive them I’ll try both with and without the btms and see how it goes.

Syl said:Your formula looks fine to me. Regarding cleansing, suds and moisturized feeling; those are variables; older people and some young people have dry scalp and need gentle cleansing, others have oily scalp, some clean their hair ounce a week or less, others have build up from too much hair products and need stronger cleansing. It is unlikely that one shampoo formulation will fit all. You need to figure out what your target audience needs and adjust accordingly.
Thank you for your response!
