    Hey All,

Thank you for your feedback!  I am currently trying to figure out a few more specifics about my EO blend in a natural deodorant I am formulating.

Currently, our blend of Jojoba OIl and EOs make up a little over 2% of our formula by weight.  The blend itself is 40% jojoba and 60% EO by volume.

The questions that I am running into are as follows:

1 ) How diluted should our blend of Jojoba and EOs be? Currently, the blend itself is 40% jojoba and 60% EO by volume. I’ve read about blends in which they are mostly Jojoba (1-3% dilution by EO).  However, I also have other diluting ingredients in our formula such as Fractionated Coconut Oil so I am not sure if I need to be aggressive with Jojoba.

    2) Since I have other ingredients that are considered diluting ingredients how do I calculate the diluting % and will it matter when I input my eo/jojoba blend?

3 ) In general what would be an appropriate/safe dilution percentage in a natural deodorant stick formula?

    Thank you!

Thanks, Perry and AmitKaria!  I appreciate the input, it sounds like I’m not getting advice against adding Jojoba oil at the EO phase.  Looks like I’ll just have to experiment from here.

    Hey All,

I’ve added the EOs at the end of my phasing.  I kept them at around .8% of my formula but still feel the scent is not strong enough.  Would it make sense to add jojoba oil with the EOs at the end of my phasing?  Meaning I add both EO and jojoba oil while the mixture is cooling and right before pouring into containers.  I figured jojoba could help hold the scent better.  Thoughts?

    Much thanks!

Thank you all for your responses.  I appreciate both the help with temperature and the resources around EOs.  I’ll round out my reading a bit more on the potential downsides of EOs.

    Much thanks,

Thank you all for the response! Apologies but I should have been more clear, I meant I will only be using essential oils for scent.  There are many other ingredients in the deodorant bar.  My main concern is at what phase and temperature to add the oils in. Thank you!

Thanks, Mark.  This makes sense, I’ll adjust accordingly.  Any preference on the temperature to cool the stick at?

Thanks for the response, Mark!  It sounds like you are recommending a cooler temperature for the pour.  I did heat the liquids/waxes to 120F and then add the powders but those bars came out too mushy.

I recently tested out having the liquids/waxes at 150F and then adding the powders in.  The bars came out decently well although I’m not sure the temp I poured at.

I guess my question is does the liquid/wax mixture have to be at a certain temperature when the powders are added?  It seems like I should be at around 150F - 160F when I add the powders which is the range of my highest melting point ( cera bellina ).
