What is the current pH? TEA is an other alternative.

@Biochemist, If I know that one of the ingredients will not be stable at 45C I only do the stability test for 4 weeks, and try to improve the product to not separate. For ex. urea degradation is triggered by water presence, acid medium and temperature. If you have an emulsion o/w and an acid active ingredient, doing the stability test at 45 C will only lead to urea degradation. You will see the pH will increase a lot (8-9), the cream surface will have some hoes due to CO2 formation.
I mention on the package to keep at room temperature, or if it is the case at 8-15 C. It is also mentioned on the label for bigger packages the same thing, to avoid problems in transport or storage facilities. -
I’d make the sure product is stable and than verify preservatives, in any case I can modify the preservative without creating problems for the stability.

There is no such equivalence. Lots of semisolids are not stable at higher temperatures, so putting such a product in accelerated conditions will just tend to fail. I only do this test just because it has to be done (45 C / 80% RH 4 weeks), the results are not reliable.

Where did the $417m came from? Why did she woke up 10 years later after she was diagnosed? Was it because some johnson competitor came by to “help” her?
She used talc in a regular basis for over 40 year??? Sorry to say this, but some people just deserve to die…. -

PharmacistNovember 2, 2017 at 2:39 pm in reply to: Degradation of Propylene Glycol (Oxidation)I think it is too much solid form to suspend into an emulsion. If you want the emulsion to be waterproof or not easily washable, you can make an W/O emulsion or even an ointment.

PharmacistOctober 30, 2017 at 8:01 am in reply to: How to determine how much Emulsifier you need?couldn’t find much info about xl 180, but I found the composition of xl 80 and I could say for sure that blend is going to be very expensive.

This is an interesting point what @domy said. In case you make the extract in house, do you put the ingredient as powder (as it was supplied) or as an extract (an intermediate product in the manufacture of the final form) ?

There are semi automatic machines for filling tubes, but I don’t understand why would you need such equipment if you are making small quantities. I’d suggest to use 100-150 ml syringes which can be easy filled with the cream by using a spatula.

Nice
If you are using seed powder, that is the inci name -
With that budget you can get good equipments
For balances check out Kern
For ph-meter (as Bobzchemist said), check out hama
While for stirrer, get a hotplate and an Overhead Stirrer -
Thank you. I will try this out.

I would guess SA alone recrystallizes. The process of recrystallization starts when you add water and EDTA

PharmacistOctober 24, 2017 at 12:01 pm in reply to: CAPB (Cocamidopropyl Betaine) temperature sensitive?I tried to add CAPB at 25-35 C and indeed the viscosity increased, but the % was too high to dissolve at this temperature so I had to increase it at 45-50 and as expected the viscosity decreased while it dissolved till a clear solution was obtained.

Interesting, I didn’t know it would dissolve in the oil phase. Is this possible even if the menthol crystals are bigger?
Is there any specific ratio? -
COFFEA ARABICA SEED POWDER ?
Why are you using coffee and not caffeine? -

PharmacistOctober 23, 2017 at 1:40 pm in reply to: CAPB (Cocamidopropyl Betaine) temperature sensitive?I have checked a few CAPB suppliers and from some of their example formulations, I noticed that if CAPB is in higher % it is incorporated at 45-60 C while in lower % it is added in RT.
-
I am working in a very similar project. We should join forces!
Menthol should be dissolved in alcohol, and this solution should be added after the cream is formulated and is almost cooled. While methyl salicylate can be added in the old phase. -

PharmacistOctober 20, 2017 at 5:52 pm in reply to: CAPB (Cocamidopropyl Betaine) temperature sensitive? At room temperature it kind of turns into gel and it makes the homoganization harder. I’m going to test an other time at room temperature and if it’s not good will increase the temperature at about 45

PharmacistOctober 20, 2017 at 12:23 pm in reply to: Remedies For stability problems of emulsionsYou should check the conditions Temp/RH when you keep the cream 5-6 mo as bulk, same thing applies for tubes.
You should also try to make the stability tests a short time before filling the tubes.
