Hi there, I can strongly agree with you that these bars are not a great way to wash your hair if you are looking for something of a good time. They are infact the opposite. However, if you are looking to go camping or not wanting to lug around loads of heavy liquids, then this is your alternative. There are quite a lot of natural alternative silicones. If you want to know more let me know. cheers Dr Cath.

    Dear MaidenOrangeBlossom,

Back in the Jurassic period when I first tried putting out my first line of cosmetics, I thought that glass had to be the best. I was trying to be the Australian version of Jo Malone London. She sold her 200g Creme in a glass jar. So, I did something similar. The previous answers are correct in that glass is heavy to transport and it can break, but it the heaviness does give it a feeling of luxuriousness and I find that if a company uses glass it will only be in a small 30-50g small jar. However, new packaging types with double walled plastic and airless packaging, are also luxurious and do not have the weight of glass or the price. I find jars are becoming redundant in the post Covid world, as pumps take over. As you know with a jar you will stick your fingers into it many many times reducing its shelf life, but an airless pump has none of those problems.

    Hope this helps. Dr Cath

Have you read any papers about the effectiveness of Tri-ethyl Citrate? It basically says that is doesnt work?

Also, have you seen the natural deodorants lists?

Then, there are the zinc compounds like zinc glycinate, zinc citrate, etc. From Jung b…. from NZ

If you are more interested in any of these references please let me know.

    cheers Cath

    Hi again,

I know exactly what you mean and it is pointless buying expensive actives if you really want them to work, although as the previous fellow mentioned you can add it to the formula in very small amounts for marketing reasons only. Out of the ingredients you mentioned I know that Nicotinimide B3 is a winner and has a lot of research behind it. I would drop the panthenol B5, oats are usually a good edition making the hair soft, then a lot of shampoos add a load of silicones. You may have heard about these amazing compounds that all us chemists love. However, in the sustainable natural world we live in, maybe you could use a Natural Silicone Alternative which has the same or similar effects as silicones. For example iso amyl laurate (doesnt sound very nice?), in my years of formulating I know one thing you can give me the most organic ingredient in the world but if the name sounds like something that jumped out of a nuclear plant, then no one will pick it up off the shelf. Others include esters like Shea Butter esters, cetiol C5, all the large companies have a few of these on their lists. There are also others things you can do easily to take it from just another formula, to wow how did they afford to use that active????? cheers Cath

    Hi Maiden Blossom,

have you ever looked at the one time use shampoo and conditioner squares/balls/triangle etc.

There are many areas like camping and hiking and even bikies could use these and not have to travel around with heavy liquids.

Let me know what you think??? I could definitely help you do those and I think you would be very unique still.

I would go cold process emulsifier formulate gel-creme and add PGA (Poly Glutamic Acid) my , better than HA.

Dont you think Glyceryl Stearate SE is a bit out dated?

To reduce your fear about the acid irritating factor, you could make a clay mask and add the AHA to that?
