Pharma, the actives are water soluble so it sounds like the barrier created by the silicone would not interfere with absorption of the actives into the skin. Thanks for your input!

Also, making a nano emulsion out of the TT oil will create small enough particles that it more easily penetrates the skin. I have been making nanoemulsions for this reason. Let me know if you need some help. tamilee100@gmail.com

I make topical CBD nanoemulsions using either plant based ingredients or all organic. No PEGs or polysorbates. They are great and I get rave reviews. Non greasy and works really fast (I am told). Happy to help you out with any questions you may have about this type of product.

It is certainly a challenge to work with all “natural” ingredients, but even harder to work with all organic certified ingredients so really appreciate your help. -
Mark,
Oh, right. Thanks for pointing out about the glycerin. I stand corrected:) I am trying to avoid using a preservative and thinking I could substitute the glycerin for water. At this point I figure I need an emulsifier so will be doing some experimenting with a oil/glycerin emulsion. I am using sucrose ester, polysorbate 20, and lecithin for an oil/water emulsion, but may need to use a different combo for glycerin. -

MemberApril 24, 2019 at 12:11 am in reply to: Scale up issues and herbs/emulsions questionHi Mark,
Nice to hear from you.
Thanks for the info. I have not heard of these types of extracts. The company that I am formulating the topicals for is really into herbs and want those in their topical. Currently I am using those sourced from FSS which is standardized. It almost feels like a green-washed product.
We currently have a processing facility designed for scale up operation so can accommodate a large mixer without issue. -
Thank you for your response to my question, DAS. I have much to learn!

Perry,
Thank you for the link to the high viscosity hand pump! Just what I had in mind and at a good price.

Good thoughts tanelise. And thank you for your encouragement!

Mark, thank you for your encouragement. Perhaps one day I’ll be responding as an expert to others new to the industry:)

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. I appreciate Belassi’s comment about the issue with methanol being more important than pesticides. I agree with this.

Thank you to those of you who kindly and informatively responded to my questions. I am no chemist but have an advanced degree in nursing and am use to freely sharing my expertise with others interested in my profession, so assumed those responding to questions on this forum would be similarly eager to share their knowledge. So, I am sorry if I offended anyone with my ignorance. I am taking Perry’s online class and thought this forum was an appropriate place to ask questions. I can now see I was mistaken.

Do you know where I can find either a pump or automated dispenser? Thank you for your input.

I did not realize pesticides could be filtered out with charcoal. That is great news. Thanks for sharing as the organic ethanol is about 3x more expensive than the non-organic. Thanks for your input.
