Increase your carbomer, maybe 0.75% or 4v4n 1% of that is what it takes to get your desired viscosity.  You can try ETD (easy to disperse maybe ultrez 21).  If not, maybe a carbopol 940.  Don’t be afraid of neutralizing.

I will tell you this is a very “tricky” thing to get right.  We have been manufacturing these types of products for years.  I can’t get into specifics but you should maybe start with a brown blend and then add to the product to adjust that.  If it is too green you need less blue most likely.

I have been in contract manufacturing since 1985, my own business since 1999.  I think I have signed 1 manufacturing agreement in that entire time.  Customers come to us, I tell them out terms they tell us what they need.  We make sample, they approve, we manufacture and fill, they pay us.  Simple.

Hi Aziz.  I am using Ultrez 21 because that is what we stock for other types of products.  I’m just curious why something like PG that normally may give some “slip” to products causes a sticky feeling in this type of product.

Thanks everyone.  I thought the more PG I had the more “slip” and moisturizing it would be.  I took it out altogether and now I have very little sticky feeling.  Not sure why that happens though.  It is interesting.

BTW, it’s the sodium silicate that is “water glass”.  And most all leave a residue.  The amount depends on the person’s skin and the amount of silicate in the formula.  A few other things too but the ones I mentioned are the main ones.

Ah, Life Works.  We made product for them.  The gentleman who owned the company was named Sid Katz. He passed away many, many years ago.  Don’t know what happened to the company after that.  IF the other product was made in South Florida there is a good chance we made it too

If you have the original, take a picture of it.  Also if it says a company or anything on the back.

Back in the 1980’s there was only about 5 to 10 manufacturers in the entire state of Florida including a family business I worked for in South Florida.  If it was made in Florida I must know them

Thank you.  I don’t have UCON but I do have PEG 400 so I’ll give it a try.

Why do you think that is a high amount of PG?

Was the product you used to use made for or by a company named either “Top Billing” or Boyd’s ?  Was it maybe called “No Lines Temporary Wrinkle Remover”  Do you recall if it looked very similar to the picture below?

If the answer to any of these is yes then I am the person who manufactured the product for them back in the 1980’s and 90’s

There is a section of the forum that deals with chemists services.  You may have luck there.

On a website that sells DIY chemicals I saw the recommend  “maintain final pH at acid levels of 3.2 to 3.4”.  So maybe it’s the fact that my final ph is about 6.0 to 7.0.  We have that pH due to the fact we are using Ultrez 21 in the formulation.

It could also be the green tea in your PI blend that has discoloured.

Thanks but I doubt it.  The total blend is in the formula at about 0.3% and I have used this in so many creams without anything happening

Thanks, I should have known better.  Here is a list of chemicals in order.  I can’t post %.  Shea butter is refined and about 3%, Ferulic as I mentioned is 0.5% so everything after that is less than 0.5%.  There is no fragrance.  Final ph is 6.0 to 7.0.
    Thanks

If your CM provides chemicals to manufacture your product and 2 months passed between the time you issued PO and the time you sent your components or chemicals it is possible they got a price increase on anything they provided.  In that case I believe they should pass on any increases.  You can’t expect them to absorb increases in raw material.  Also many times customers ask for some extra packaging to be done from the last order and assume it will be done at the same price.

I believe emulsifying wax has tween (polysorbate in it) which can “soap” on the skin.  Maybe try a different combination of emulsifiers.  Also, in either case try adding 0.75% to 1.0% dimethicone to help with “soaping”.

I am curious why the Acid Blue would prevent the product turning green as opposed to using FD&C Blue #1

Agreed.  I guess it’s because when I do need outside help I work with people I already have a relationship with and there is trust on both sides.

@VictoriaBeeHave you been buying the brand name material?  Also, if you are buying from a DIY place as opposed to a distributor of the manufacturer you may not be getting the same (original) material.  I had a situation as a manufacturer where I needed a small amount of a chemical and bought from a reputable DIY website.  All was good till the 3rd time I purchased.  My product didn’t come out the same.  Although they had the brand name listed on their website when I called and pressed them they admitted they had bought an equivalent.  This may be your problem.
If you have any question PM me as I don’t get a chance to read the forum as often as I would like.

If I hire an outside chemist to develop a formula for me I would assume that I own the formula.  Based on the thread, maybe I shouldn’t.
I am a little different though.  Most work whether it be someone doing “contract work” for me or me manufacturing for a customer is done on “handshake” deals.  I can count on one hand the number of legal written documents I have signed in either case.
