Well in my defence I had already been thinking I would need to revisit that… this formulation is still in its infancy, so it’s good to have the discussion. I do recognise the necessity of robust preservation.

Am interested though as to what you would suggest… needs to be COSMOS and/or ECOCERT approved.

… and regarding pre-hydrating HMW HA and adding in cool down, what ratio of water:HMW HA powder would I need to premix? My powder has a molecular weight of 0.8M-1.5M. From what I can see online, a 2% solution would be extremely thick (almost unworkable?), and I’d need to use 10g of that premixed solution to get 0.2g of HA in the formulation. This amount, along with other things added in the cool down, seems to really ramp up the load on the emulsified cream. Would be very interested in your thoughts on strength of HA solution.

    Much appreciated advice.

I also hadn’t known re adding HMW HA at cool down phase. I’ve never been clear on the tolerance limits of Olivem 1000 for just what quantity of aqueous/non aqueous elements can be added at cool down before the stability of the emulsion starts to be negatively affected.

I’ve been working to an upper limit of 10.0% (mostly botanical extracts) as a general rule of thumb… is that about right? Will have to make room in cool down now for the Sodium ascorbyl phosphate and the HMW HA.

    Thanks Squinny

My supplier says to add the Mg Ascorbyl phosphate into the water phase, but clearly from all replies it is heat sensitive, so will add to cool down in future.

    Hi Ketchito

    Preservative system is:

Geogard 221 1.0% as broad spectrum preservative

Potassium sorbate 0.2% as preservative booster
