  • @Bobzchemist I think its a very plausible and acceptable explanation, so that means in those products the level of emulsifiers would be comparatively low or weak emulsifiers would be there which are unable to produce such white effect.

  • @Bobzchemist Great explanation, so it means the whiteness can be attributed to the leftover oils and waxes once the water part has vanished (for reasons you mentioned).

  • The soap of course as you mentioned, though I have seen even those neutralized with TEA give the whitening effect if it is a soap based lotion e.g. TEA Stearate soap. If you want to eliminate this problem then the whole oil phase has to be changed. In fact then there remains no possibility to have an anionic lotion, though I hope other senior mentors could throw a better approach on this if I am wrong.

  • How about adding dimethicone to the formula, little goes a long way.

The first thing without proper info that comes to mind is that the culprit is your perfume. Its a very blind perception though.

@Bimsmide Start with 2% and check if you need more or need to increase the main surfactants a little than the current level.

Why don’t you try adding little foam booster like a betaine, might help u a long way.

Well I suppose if it is about salvaging the batch then take a small sample from the batch and start adding citric acid (50% solution) in little increments and keep checking the pH till you achieve 7 or 8. I hope other senior mentors can give you a better advice, this is the best I could think of.

How did you reach 11.4 pH is the first question that comes to mind?

If there was a solution for incorporation of oils in shampoos (without catapulting the costs) we would see many such innovations from the giants. Exceptions are rare.

@Perry I think if the formula is without water then you are right but if he forgot to mention water here then 4% ethanol ain’t sufficient. Or what is the carrier for the formula?

@NancyT oh well there so many light ester oils which might act as good binders and won’t trouble you with agglomeration and peeking oil droplets.

@cherri I suppose you have to play with these 2 till you have optimized the ratio to eliminate crystallization though I am not quite sure about the end results. Or you would have to add something extra to prevent waxes from crystallization.

well obvious culprit seems to be microcrystalline wax only though if i remember an old post of this forum there was a mention of cetyl alcohol too crystallizing out. Why dont you try by working on both one at a time, that way you can analyze correctly.

well I was thinking what to suggest without knowing a single thing about your oil phase let alone the formula. So I think what you are saying about waxes is correct.

Guess dimethicone is not getting properly absorbed by your solids, maybe you need to mix it more appropriately or try replacing dimethicone with some other binder oil.

Mate maybe noone had a proper reply to your query, why do you take it negatively.
Go through the forum and you would find many unanswered queries, it is just a forum and I as a member can’t force other members here to respond to all my queries. Maybe some other forums have a proper reply to the query you have raised.
    Peace.

@Linda Try to optimize the ration of SCI and SLSa, see the link below which is quite helpful.

Maybe you need to optimize your thickener and I suppose if it is something like PEG 150 Distearate like thickener then extra care has to be taken to keep the end product pourable.

Thumb rule, colors drift towards yellow. At higher temperatures this phenomenon kind of accelerates so its always better to add a color stabilizer to prevent or slow down this drift. At times fragrances too can be the reason so I suppose you try both but have a look at what Bobz mentioned about the carcinogenicity, quite noteworthy.
