Perry, would you say Nizoral is illegal? It’s an OTC product with Ketoconazole sold at every CVS and Walgreens across America.

It’s not an exact science but for our shelf life testing we use: 12 weeks @ 40°C for a one year shelf life and 26 weeks at 40°C for a two year shelf life.

In Perry’s article above he states, and again, this isn’t an exact science, but 8 weeks at 45°C being indicative of a one year shelf life.

Would you set up an experiment with a standardized base formula and use corneometry to test performance as it relates to skin moisturization? I ask in the form of a question because I’m unsure.

  • this is marketing material.

I’m assuming you’re not talking about Erythropoietin. Are you making a lotion for endurance cyclists or perhaps the Russian Olympic team?  :)

Jeez they have a section about formulating your own skin lightening cream.

Also, “Natural skin lightening agents are safe to handle and usually do not cause any skin reactions.”… What??

A chemist is a scientist in the way that a square is a rectangle. Also, a lot of professionals on this forum are consultants, thus their opinion is the service they sell. For them to spend ANY amount of time on a question posed by you or me could potentially cost them literal money not just time.

If you have it handled, how did you solve your issue? After all, this forum is about learning and, as one of my professors used to like to say, if you have a question, 9 out of 10 times someone else has the same question but wont ask.

Late to the party but I formerly worked at a place that made smoked hams and we wrapped every one in a collagen sheet before it was netted. You could try a place that makes a similar product and maybe buy some of theirs or find out where they get theirs. I never knew how much but it was always stressed to us that the collagen sheets were pretty expensive though.

I believe I read it on this Forum at some point, I believe posited by @Belassi, I just joined the industry about 8 months ago so my specific cosmetic knowledge is limited. I found this article,

    https://oaktrust.library.tamu.edu/bitstream/handle/1969.1/153620/ANDOTRA-THESIS-2014.pdf?sequence=1

In the abstract it stated that in their test, 1% citric performed the best but when compared to their sample without citric acid, and factoring in the cost, it became an unfavorable option. Also, clays are mostly made of aluminous minerals.

Obviously I yield to your years of industry experience @MarkBroussard, but I read that chelating agents are overwhelmed and rendered ineffective in most clay based products. Does this effect vary depending on the variety of clay used? e.g kaolin v bentonite v rhassoul.

.9g is correct. We use mass % so that density isn’t a factor. As a new lab tech I get tripped up sometimes because I will begin to build a phase in too small a beaker because I generally assume that 1g=1ml; because of differing densities I sometimes run out of room. You would only consider density if you were using volume measurements.

Ooh I can actually add to this discussion. Long time lurker, first time poster (just got into the industry about 6 months ago). As well as a few that you posted, I also use https://cosmetics.specialchem.com/ , and I go back to Khan Academy whenever I need a quick review. I signed up for the InCosmetics R&D Club but I can’t seem to find how to access their discussion group.
