Yes, I was also shocked when i checked the EU regulations regarding pet products and basically there was nothing there. No need for safety assesments and all the other stuff. They only say, that pet products must be safe for humans that have contact with those products.

Thank you very much! But in the end is there anything like a “gold standard” for making dog or cat products when it comes to pH? Let’s say i would like to make a dog shampoo - what is a standard pH for this kind of product? I checked one shampoo at home and its pH was 6.

I have read somewhere that dog skin pH is higher than ours. And that it differs between races of dogs. So maybe ph of 5,5 is to low for dog’s skin?Btw is there any other way of increasing ph than using bases like NaOH? Is it possible to use other ingredients like bentonite clay or something else?

About those Montanov emulifiers: i have access to Montanov 202 TM and Montanov 68 TM. Which one you would prefer if i would like to make face cream and some kind of aftershave lotion? Does any of them require co-emulsifier or water phase stabiliser like xanthan gum?

MemberSeptember 27, 2018 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Do I need a preservative for this formula (cleansing balm)?Hey you are welcome! In my comment there should be a question mark after “perspective”. So it should be:Which one would you prefer looking both from safety and marketing perspective?I’ve seen both of those peservatives being used but as i don’t have much experience with them I would really appreciate if someone would point which one is better for anhydrous formula. I know that now people are starting to avoid phenoxyethanol in cosmetic products (same story as with parabens). -

MemberSeptember 27, 2018 at 10:12 am in reply to: Do I need a preservative for this formula (cleansing balm)? From what i’ve seen for anhydrous products many use Phenoxyethanol + Ethylhexylglycerin (Euxyl® PE 9010) or Benzyl alcohol, Dehydroacetic acid, Benzoic acid, Sorbic acid (Iscaguard BOA). Which one would you prefer looking both from safety and marketing perspectiveThere is also phenethyl alcohol + caprylyl glycol (Iscaguard PFA) which is less known (i think) but more expensive than euxyl. Any experience with that one anybody? -
Thank you very much for the answers!
