I have a Tea Tree shampoo in my line, it’s popular. I add a herbal fragrance by Mane and the combined aroma is fresh and woodsy. Finish is a pearlescent green. -

English pottle of course. We’re hoping to scale up to big black pot.

MemberMarch 22, 2019 at 12:49 am in reply to: Potassium Sorbate/Sodium benzoate and testingYou’re not looking very hard. You can buy KEM NAT here for instance. There’s also Inolex whose products I like, but their MOQ is like, two tanker trucks or something like that.
COSMAT are on 53 42 26 04, give them a call. They have all sorts, incl. glyoxilic acid, and another preservative, STABIL. -
You modern people with your grams and so on. Here at P&P we use only traditional, ‘natural’ measures: We know that one gill is equal to two jacks, and there’s 32 jacks in a pottle.

MemberMarch 22, 2019 at 12:33 am in reply to: Liquid Shampoo - Thickener for Potassium Cocoate?Heaven only knows what’s going on. They’ve got a salt, magnesium chloride, and an acid, acetic… I mean, do you see anyone else using these in shampoo?
They’re stating they use “pinus banksiana (pine) extract” as their preservative
Best of luck with that! That extract is one of my stock items, I use it instead of EGCG (tea). I tested it several months ago to see if it could be a preservative. Hahahahaha! I made a 20% solution and left it in a closed half-full bottle. It grew fungus in about 10 days. -

MemberMarch 20, 2019 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Liquid Shampoo - Thickener for Potassium Cocoate?I found it. Not exactly a large company. The worst thing is that whoever formulated it, has put in olive oil (dandruff food). It’s just not possible to get potassium cocoate to pH 5.5 — if you doubt this I encourage you to try it for yourself.

MemberMarch 20, 2019 at 8:52 pm in reply to: Liquid Shampoo - Thickener for Potassium Cocoate?Could it be the various extracts are lowering the pH??
— No. Sounds like it isn’t actually potassium soap. Also, your consumer report indicated the same. Potassium cocoate is appalling, it dries out the skin, strips the oils, leaves hair in a bad state. -
Because that’s what you need before you do anything else.
You’ve registered it? (I can’t find it on the database).
I see so many people here who want to start a line and do it back to front. I made the same error and lost my first brand name to a competitor. -

MemberMarch 19, 2019 at 8:50 pm in reply to: Liquid Shampoo - Thickener for Potassium Cocoate?Product sounds completely incorrect as there is no way to bring potassium cocoate to a pH of 5.5, it would split into a horrible mess of free fatty acids. You have actually measured the pH yourself?

I have BTMS50 can I try that in place of honeyquat
- No, but try making a very small sample (100mL) to see why. -

It occurs to me that you might try a design using one of the Polytrap products. I use Polytrap 6500. It can absorb up to 70% silicone oil. See this. Then see if you can add the wax and achieve a satisfactory blend. -
Look at the relative positions of the glycerine and propanediol. Then there’s the cinnamyl alcohol which I suspect is a preservative labelled a fragrance. Also, the benzyl salicylate, it’s used as a preservative in floral infusions.

MemberMarch 16, 2019 at 1:08 am in reply to: Mixing wax into Dimethicone for Lip Gloss formulation- help pls!I suspect it is the shea butter. Try replacing the shea with the same mass of beeswax and see if it still happens. If it is the shea, try replacing the shea with cocoa butter. Is it organic shea or refined shea?

You will absolutely have to include a proper preservative or the whole lot will go bad in a matter of weeks and possibly infect your customers. Food grade colours fade rapidly in natural light.

Using personal cleansers as surface cleaners is a bad idea. You have already discovered why. A second reason is that they are not economically viable. Using proper, cutting-edge components a high-efficiency streak-free cleaner can be made with only 3% active ingredients.
