I would speak to a pharmacist on this one. Being professional people, the guys on this board won’t be recommending dosages for human treatment. You need to be a part of the healthcare ‘crew’ to do that.

Hi everyone,
Sorry for not following through with the topic, in the end I went about it myself.Just want to report back with info for those who might be interested with my conclusions. The key aspect was that while both PVP and VP/VA lend hold to the formula, the VP/VA does it at a cost by making the hair feel dry and brittle after aplying. It will also make it harder to brush through the hair. The Cetrimonium content was held constant throughout the test, so the detangling ability(or disability…) was variable only with VP/VA. Increasing PVP didn’t seem to affect the hair too much in a negative way.My problems with SD-alcohol continued, so I just used ethanol and will worry about the issue later at production stage.I was delighted with the project and was told that my formula won over Beverly Hills and Kevin Murphy. As I recently transitioned from being a community pharmacist into cosmetic science it’s a huge encouragement to carry on at it!Thanks guys for your replies and comments. With regards to the location question, I’m in Europe. -
As another soap maker…
That’s my tool of reference:
http://soapcalc.net/calc/soapcalcWP.asp
You can check the properties of canola, olive and Shea there. You can see that they are different chemically, although marketing-wise, they are all labelled as ‘moisturising’ and ‘good-for-the-skin’. -
I appreciate your comments. Sorry for taking long to reply, I’m getting distracted with all the start-up work.
Bob, I have compare a few pomades and they are infamous for trouble with washing out. No problem with the Uppercut product, so this could be spot on.
Bill, you’re completely right, the ingredient list is wrong, I just copied it from the website but comparing it to the product I have at home, there’s parts missing.
No water though. I had it in my hands and can’t seem to believe that it would be an emulsion. Is it feasible that a company with global sales removed water(and corresponding preservative) from the list?
As a personal observation. Powders considered water-soluble still suspend evenly in oil bases.

Hi Everyone
I’m Bart and just started a simple natural cosmetics business in Poland.
My science background is Pharmacy from Nottingham, UK.At the moment I’m doing CP soaps. I do contract manufacturing of beard products for a local barbershop. And have a few niche product ideas that I hope to bring to the market.
I’m also preparing to become a cosmetic safety assessor under EU laws.
Best regards
