EntrepreneurApril 23, 2022 at 10:59 am in reply to: Formula Advice: Gentle Shampoo + Body WashYes because of sci.
I am not sure about its stability, internet and suppliers say different things.
Maybe @Perry or another expert comment what is correct.

EntrepreneurApril 23, 2022 at 10:08 am in reply to: Formula Advice: Gentle Shampoo + Body WashUse sodium chloride. When finished these ingredients
Use SLES instead of coco sulfate
Use cationic guar instead of pq10
It is about equal but much more expensive without any benefit in shampoo.

EntrepreneurApril 23, 2022 at 9:41 am in reply to: Formula Advice: Gentle Shampoo + Body WashI would reduce pq10, HPMC and and sodium phytate to 0.1% each.
use EDTA instead of sodium phytate and CAPB instead of shea betaine.pH 6
What is the active percentage of each surfactant? -

EntrepreneurApril 22, 2022 at 3:30 pm in reply to: Does glyceryl oleate do any benefit or deposit on skin without cationic polymer from cleanser?ketchito said:@Abdullah Usually oils from cleansers deposit through a mechanism called “assisted deposition”, but that can only happen in the presence of cationic polymers (except silicones, in which there are other factors that make them deposit, like a change in entrophy, or charge in the case of amodimethicones…although, cationic polymers still can aid in their deposition). Thanks
Is there any ratio that for example for 1% GMO in a formula, what percentage of cationic polymer like pq10 is required? -
What type of help do you need?
Or you need a complete formula?

EntrepreneurApril 21, 2022 at 5:45 am in reply to: Mild Moisturizing cream with ability to clear and brighten@Camel how does it compare to alpha arbutin 2%?
I recently launched a 2% alpha arbutin at pH 5 serum for skin whitening and age spot.
I am not using it myself as i don’t want to be white
but people who are using it haven’t noticed any effect of it since about a month or so use.
Maybe it takes more time to function or it is not effective at all. I don’t know.

I would say add chelating agent, reduce Propyl paraben and add a preservative for bacteria

EntrepreneurApril 21, 2022 at 1:58 am in reply to: Are you a formula minimalist or maximalist?ngarayeva001 said:I am a maximalist and not ashamed of itAlthough I don’t use any extracts and natural fluff but I add several rheology modifies and esters to achieve certain aesthetics that no one but me would even notice in a blind test. But hey, I am not a chemist
I think this is not called maximalist. You are using each ingredient for a purpose and you are able to see the result. Without all those ingredients you don’t get the results that you get with all those ingredients.
maximalist uses ingredients that he doesn’t know what is the benefit of adding it over not adding it.
Usually everyone uneducated or new are maximalist. They do a Google search, read about the benefits of 30 ingredients, believe all those information is true, and now want to combine all those benefits in one product.
That is how i was. -

Heat it to 35 - 40°C. As you would do your stability testing. Thanks

EntrepreneurApril 19, 2022 at 12:22 pm in reply to: BTMS 25 emulsion became very thick during mixing. Why and how to avoid it?Camel said:@Abdullah - I made 3% BTMS-25 emulsion with 3% C10-18 Triglycerides (oil-gelling/stabilizer), 3% esters, 2% oils and 1% OliWax. All in one water phase. It was not too thick to mix, medium-viscosity lotion.I used low-shear, anchor paddle mixer at low-medium speed only. It’s stable for 2 months now.
BTMS-50 should make thinner emulsion because it has less thickener in it, I think.
Do you mean you added oil and water phase together when cold and heated then and mixed together?

EntrepreneurApril 19, 2022 at 12:20 pm in reply to: BTMS 25 emulsion became very thick during mixing. Why and how to avoid it?@Camel @Cafe33 thanks for sharing
I made 2 batches today
1. 2% BTMS and removed GMS. Same problem
2. 2% BTMS but after adding oil phase to water, i didn’t use stick blender. Instead i mixed it with spoon by hand. This time it two phases were not mixing no matter how much or how fast or slow i mix it and the oil phase came on top and trying to combine with each other. Then I homogenized it and it became thick again.
Tomorrow i will make sample with liquid oil to see if petrolatum is the problem but i hop it is not because it is a much for my lotions.

I think you like your shampoo because you haven’t used a good shampoo before.
Just use a Shampoo with silicones or better a Shampoo+ a conditioner with silicones and you will see how inferior your product is compared to them.

@Cafe33 thanks. That may be the case.
Some more questions as you are experienced.
1. By typical mixing, do you mean homogenizer or high shear mixer?
2. What is the speed of your Anchor paddle?
3. Do you also homogenize it or just Anchor paddle mixing is enough?
Is it so just with BTMS 25 or BTMS 50 and BEHENTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE too?
I am currently using SPDMA but want to change it to something with behenyl in it.

EntrepreneurApril 18, 2022 at 2:28 pm in reply to: synthesis polydimethylsiloxane or dimethiconeDont waist your time trying to synthesize dimethicone. Just purchase it ready made.
Synthesizing it requires equipments too that only large companies afford it.

Dimethicone reduces viscosity a lot.
For me 0.3% dimethicone 5 cst reduces viscosity by half.
1% percent dimethicone is more than enough.I suggest these changes for viscosity and function.
Petrolatum 4%
Glycerin 4%
Dimethicone 1%
165 1%
Montanove l 1%
GMS or fatty alcohol 2%
