  • Why vitamin c make my gel liquid?

    Hello i am not professional but i do some good creams and soaps , but this time is not working, 
     I use water base gel to do my creams with vitamin E , Rosehip, many oils i can use on it, e
    but today i try to put vitamin ac and the gel become liquid ..  Why? 

    I have used sodium polyacrylate, why become liquid and its the same if i use carbomer? 
    With what ingredient can i do a water base gel to mix with vitamin C?

    If you want useful advice you’ll need to post your entire formula (or at least all the ingredients) along with how you are making the product.

    sodium polyacrylate and carbomer are very sensitive to electrolytes/charges, I have seen issues with both these products holding large amounts of ascorbic acid. That’s all I can say without knowing more.

    Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) in a water base is going to have horrible stability, i wouldn’t recommend it to even a professional. If you want to use it within a day or two of making it sure but otherwise you’ll waste your money/time

    Hi Paula
    Polyacrylate and carbomer require neutralisation i.e. a neutral pH. Once you add ascorbic ACID, pH drops because you add, well, an acid. Version 1: add a base to correct pH and lose some of the effects of Vit. C. Version 2: use another pH independent gellant.

    ok, i do creams to myself and is really amazing simple woww 

    normaly i do 

    add destiled water
    add carbomer or sodium polyacrylate
    mix until gel
    add vitamin E oil
    add retinol 3% powder
    Add other oils maybe rosehip 
    add less den 1% Phenoxyethanol 

    then i want to do a gel with vitamin C 

    I followed the same way but when i add vitamin c the fel become liquid i have tried put Triethnolamine to adjust ph but still become liquid my gel … 

    make my own cosmetic it was the best thing i have done my skin become much better and beautiful is noticeable. 

    But i cant do this vitamin c this is why i try to get help from who understand about . 
    I really appreciate your help and attention.

    Carbomer is not electrolytes resistant pick a different thickener
