  • Why is Cromollient SCE separating out of my water-based formula?

Posted by miss17february on July 21, 2022 at 3:58 am

I made a simple detangling spray consisting of mostly water, cetrimonium chloride (0.25%), polyquaternium-7 (1%), glycerin (2%), fragrance (0.50%), germall-plus (0.5%), and cromollient SCE (1%, mainly used to help solubilize the FO and aid in wet combing). However, I am noticing that the Cromollient SCE doesn’t fully solubilize in the water and begins to separate after about 30 minutes and I have to shake the bottle before each use.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Ideally, I would like to keep the cromollient since I like how it feels on my hair.

Thank you in advance for any insight!
