Posted by Anonymous on June 5, 2016 at 9:41 am

    Hello,

Why in almost every LOI, skin care, you can find EDTA less then 1%?

    Why to use it?

Is it have a combination with other ingredients?

    Thanks,

    Ziv Ben Ami.

EDTA is a quelant agent ( it binds free metal ions). Metal ions can affect the formula and using EDTA you can protect the formula from them. For example: preservatives are affected by free metal ions.

it also makes preservatives more effective, by helping break down the cell walls of microbes

@zbami if you are not allowed to use EDTA, Sodium phytate ( Dermofeel PA-3) helps too @ 0.1-0.5%. Most of the times we use EDTA below 0.1 %

GLDA is a more greener option and the biodegradability is much higher compared to EDTA. It helps in complexing the Ca ions off the bacterial cell wall and the preservative can easily penetrate. In detergents it is very important as it helps in chelating the scum and imprive the detergency of the surfactants.
