  • Where to find lists of ingredients

    Hello All,

In the last episode of The Beauty, Brains @Perry mentioned
that many brands do not like sharing lists of ingredients on their official
websites, which makes the life of a cosmetic chemist harder (totally agree).

Since analysing ingredients is my main way of learning I want
to share the places online where I go to find most of the LOIs:

    https://www.ulta.com
    (can be accessed in Europe)

    https://www.sephora.com
    (can’t be accessed in Europe)

    https://www.makeupalley.com
    (not everything but still useful)

Another hint is to lookup for UK versions of websites (for
such brands as Dior and Chanel, as they disclose more than in the US).

Beautypedia and INCIdecoder are not the most up to date but
can be helpful for some products.

    I hope it’s useful :)

Thanks for the info.  To build on that here are two other sources.

https://amazon.com  (in the Beauty & Personal care section)  Sometimes listed in the product information section

https://ebay.com - often the ingredients are listed or you can ask the seller to give you the ingredient list.

https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/  - while I don’t like to encourage use of this website because their rating system is BS, you can look up a number of products and click on “Label Information” to get an ingredient list. The claims are not listed.  I’m not sure about the accuracy.

Thank you very much Perry! I dislike EWG so much that I didn’t even know they have products’ LOIs in their database. Good to know, the more sources the better.

By the way, you can also search INCI’s in Amazon. It will list products with that ingredient.

if you try to access it in the UK (and probably in Éire too), Sephora redirects you to their French site, which appears to have no English-language text on it, and neither do the other European sites
the Far Eastern, Australian and New Zealand sites are in English though
