  • Where to begin with silicone formulas?

    Hi all.

I’m working on custom-colored foundation, the custom color being obtained by a new method which is the Big Idea for my nascent business. I’ve been assuming a silicone-based final product, because all my wife’s good foundations are silicone-based. That said, I’ve had some trouble finding small amounts of silicone emulsifiers, and info on formulating W/Si emulsions seems never to be aimed at beginners. So I ask you all:

    — Is there any reason a beginner can’t formulate with silicones?

    — I guess I start by just going ahead and making a silicone-based formula from a formulary?

    — Formulary entries call for ingredient mixtures like Abil WE 09 (Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1
Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate). How versatile are these? Is each mix useful in a range of formulas, or is it better to buy the components separately?

    Thanks for your support!

Thanks, Belassi. I’ll take a look at it.
