what to use as a thickner for clear shower gel.
i am trying to make clear shower gel. used ultrez20 0.8 % and to nutrilize it used tea 0.2% but still the base of ultrez 20( lubrizol) is bit hazy. kindly sudgest some other thickner which gives crystal clear apperiance.

Add more TEA, there is a ratio for such neutralizations provided by Lubrizol.
Think the polymer has not been completely neutralized.
Generally for such formulations, I suppose Aqua SF 1 and Aqua SF 2 are used. -
The Smart line of lubrizol works at higher pH range, so it’s ideal for this kind of formulation.

Nothing works better for clear systems than Crothix liquid. You can control the viscosity by adding more. Finish your product adjust pH and start adding from 0.5% and bring it to 1.5%. INCI: PEG-150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate (and) PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides (and) Aqua.

Aculyns from Dow ain’t bad either.

Use a combination of Ultrez and Xanthan gum.

how much aculyn 60(PEG-150 DISTEARATE) to use if i want to replace ultrez 20=0.8%.

@dharmaraj there is no direct calculation, but you can start with 0.3% and see how much further you need to increase the dosage.

You can use cocamide dea+pq10 combination to get cyrstal clear shower gel. why are u insisting on such those polymers if you do not have any particles in your formulation you have to suspend?

have tried crothix flakes. 0.8 gives best result in clear shampoo and showergel…thank u guys for support

Actually DEA is unhealthy ingredient wich classed in cancerogen ingredients so never use it.

@DAS it is not surprising that people say it. I have never used it (just because I have my favorite four surfactants that work and I can’t bother discovering new ones) so when I run google search it took me 15 minutes to find a legit source. It was hidden among tons of chemophobic articles that provide no other proof but emotions.

@ngarayeva001 sure i will argue what you make is not a reference “website” evry one can write what he wants however this is page from book you can translate it to english and know that DEA is potentiel cancer cause with presence of nitric acid .

@Fekher, so you are suggesting that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is just a random website and everyone can write something there (as if it’s a wikipedia) but a screenshot from a book written in French that shows some chemical reactions is a 100% proof that the surfactant is a cancerogen?

@ngarayeva001 yes book is proof and reference however website is not that what i learnt in engineer cycle, i belive in that idea i write it with my argument then readers have mind and will decide.

@Fekher let’s leave “beliefs” to the church and do not operate this term when we are talking about cosmetic science. There are standards for a good research, such as methods used, sample size, animals or humans, in vitro or in vivo etc. Another point is that everything is a poison at a right concentration, even water. The researches suggest that there is not enough evidence to say that DEAs are cancerogens. Some animal testings show that “it potentially may be”. Experiments on rats and mice show controversial results. I did not brought up some random website, it’s the FDA website. If you can give a link to a legit scientific research paper that proves your point, not your “beliefs”, I am sure everyone here will be happy to change their mind. At least write the name of the book, not a screenshot of some page in French.
