  • What gives pomades/hair clay hold?

Posted by samsal on September 6, 2022 at 10:15 pm

Hello all, Im not a Chemist so forgive me for using layman’s terms but Im currently formulating my own haircare products for men to carry in my salon. Im striving for 100% plant based. Im wondering between mixing the clay and pomade, Im wondering what or how does these hair products provide hold? So far im mixing kaolin clay in a mixture of oils and waxes and Im curious as to whether its the clay or the wax that provides the hold. If I want more hold do I add more wax or maybe a different wax? Or do I add more clay?

Their holding power is based on their waxy/semi-solid form.
They should be semi-solid to touch and should soften when rubbed between fingers/hands for easy application.

They are usually W/O balms kaolin is added to ensure a matte finish.

    Hope this helps :)
