    Hello everyone. I’m trying to make my own waterbased pomade and after finishing some samples, I found one to be reasonable to use myself. However there is some room for improvement.

    My current formula is as following:

    Water                                                              50,51%
    Castor oil                                                        15,15%
    E-wax (Cetearyl alcohol and Polysorbate 60)   15,15%
    Beeswax                                                          10,10%
    Jojoba oil                                                         5,05%
    Essential oil #1                                                 2,02%
    Essential oil #2                                                 1,01%
    Vitamin E                                                         1,01%

    The result is a creamy/buttery structure with a medium-hold. Color: light yellow/cream white.

    What I want to achieve:

    - A strong hold, with a kind of transparent color.

    - Replace the E-wax with something else. Why? After some research i found out that it isn’t exactly natural nor completely safe. I’m not sure if it’s true but maybe someone can shine a light on that matter.

    You need to completely reformulate to produce anything remotely transparent.

    The essential oil content is far too high (this has nothing to do with the clarity of the product, though).

    Do you have reasons for the ingredients to be in such odd quantities?

    @johnb

    The transparency was not a good idea, not even possible with that amount of beeswax.

    I want the ingredients to be as natural as possible, but I think i have to put in extra ingredients for a decent outcome.

    I have tried the following, for a better hold:

    Water          43,86%
    E-wax         20,18%
    Beeswax      14,04%
    Castor oil    14,04%
    Jojoba oil     6,14%
    Vit E             0,88%
    Essential oil  0,88%

    E-wax percentage is too high. The result was decent though, with a good hold.

    Still wondering if I can replace the e-wax for something safer?

    @ Cleanwax

    Your formula is incomplete as is. Your totals don’t add  up to 100%, you got only 85.98%. You still need abt. 14% to fill in your formula before you start troubleshooting.

    @Ameen

    How do you get 85,98%? I get to 100% if I add them up

    @ Cleanwax,
    I apologize, very sorry, my mistake, I simply omitted to add up either the beeswax or the castor oil. You are correct; once again, my apology.

    @Ameen

    No problem at all Ameen :)

    I wonder if I can replace the E-wax with Lecithin?

    Please check this forum, there have been so many discussions on this subject. Few ppl including me have posted the finished formula for this product here a few days ago. But I stay away from synthetic and natural debate, not my cuppa.

    @Chemist77

    I checked every subject tagged with ‘pomade’ before opening this one. However I can’t find the finished formula that you’re talking about.

    Do you have a link to that topic?

    Use the search facility (top of page  right adjacent to the box marked “Go” and then press Go). You will find more pomade formulations than you could have dreamed about.
