    Hi All
I would like to make my own Waterbased pomade use for kids. Is there any alternative ingredient to replace PEG & Cetereath 25?
I read this 2 ingredient is toxic and cause cancer. I would love to find alternative to replace this as I intend to use essential oil and Aloe vera as active ingredient and trying to get as Natural as it can be.Thank you so much.

    where did you read that?

neither of these materials are toxic or carcinogenic (from the tags I’m guessing that by “PEG” you mean PEG-20 glyceryl triisostearate)

there are alternatives, but they’ll make your product look and feel completely different

I agree with @Bill_Toge. These two are the most common ingredients for a good water-based pomade. For best info on the restrictions about these ingredients, see links below

    It’s not true.

Remember anyone can write anything about anything on the Internet.  That doesn’t make it true.

If you want to know whether ingredients cause cancer, see what science has to say, not unscientific, biased natural product sellers.

@Aisha that web page cites the EWG as a source, so it’s fair to say it’s nonsense

ceteareth-25 is harmless as long as you don’t get it in your eye

the ethylene oxide content in cosmetic grades is next to nothing, and definitely not enough to cause any health problems

Evonik and BASF are the two manufacturers that come to mind - trade names Tegin Acid C or Cremaphor A25

Only downside with this material is that it needs high temperature to get it to dissolve and can clump up typically upto 95 deg C- not beyond the wit of man but can be a pain with a beaker on a hotplate. For small batches a microwave is a godsend

C25 is the go to material for clear ringing gels. If the product doesn’t have to be clear, or you intend to have a clay in there you could use waxes and butters instead.
If you want a clear waterbase gel that flows rather than bounces, many gelling agents such as Carbomers, polyacrylates or guars
