  • Water Soluble Slip Agents - Alternatives to Silicones

    Posted by MarkBroussard on November 24, 2014 at 9:30 am

    I have a water-based formulation that is a bit sticky and I’m trying to improve the sensorial. The formulation is an aqueous serum thickened with HEC/Xanthan Gum and the only oil included is a touch of Vitamin E Tocotrienols.  I prefer to not use Silicones as slip agents.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    @milliachemist:

    Can you be a bit more specific, please?

    PEG-7 Olivate, it’s just a wild thought though but since you want to avoid silicones then why not some vegetable esters.

    Try PEG-12 dimethicone, PEG/PPG – 18/18 Dimethicone (and)
    Cyclopentasiloxane or PEG-10 Dimethicone. I think Nusil has these water soluble slip agents

    Polyox resins from DOW give amazing slip characteristics to aqueous solutions.

    Polyox is a range of polyethylene oxide resins.
