Water soluble antioxidant
Posted by pma on August 26, 2021 at 4:43 amThe only water soluble antioxidant I know (for the formulation) is ascorbic acid. Everything else, like BHT, Tinogards etc. are lipo soluble.
Does anywone know more water soluble antioxidants?

You didn’t give much to go by….but what about sodium metabisulfite or Sodium thiosulfate…and that whole family of similars?
I use that in a really tough formula.
I also use TEC…which can go in either phase. (Not smart enough to know which phase it works in though…hehehe.)

Agree. The first thought I had was about sodium metabisulfite. I used it in a formula with hydroquinone which is very hard to stop from oxidizing.

Tell me about the percentage of sodium metabisulfite to use in soap and others

I don’t make or work with soaps… So I do not know the rate for that type of product, however they are used at very low rates….

What type of soap? Alkali soaps, due to their alkalinity, will be an issue in case of metabisulfite. Even ascorbic acid isn’t going to work as nicely due to chemical degradation. Phenolic and thiol antioxidants are really active at alkaline pH… that is, they work too well too fast…
