    hello guys.

    This is my oilbased ingredients .
    -petrolatum
    -beeswax
    -castor oil
    -parfum

    I want to add PVP 30(waterbased) and i know its possible to mix oilbased and waterbased together.

    Then i should add some emulsifiers.

    My question
    1.what emulsifiers thats i can use? can used ceteareth-25?
    2.how many of them i should use?

    this is for hair grease product.
    thanks.

    it is possible to emulsify water into oil, but:

    a) it will radically alter the look and feel of your product;

    b) to get your water phase in and keep it in, you’ll need good temperature control and a very efficient shear mixer;

    and c) because your PVP will be in the dispersed phase rather than the continuous phase, it will not be effective

    to get a fixative, “sticky” effect similar to PVP in an oil-based formula, I’d suggest you replace part of your petrolatum (say, 10-20% w/w) with microcrystalline wax and fine tune it from there

    yes, I figured you were making that type of product

    as I said, try adding microcrystalline wax with a high melting point, and/or lanolin wax; either of them will give you a good strong hold and allow you to keep your formula and process simple

    if you try to turn it into a water-in-oil emulsion, you’ll only make a rod for your own back
