The folks at RT Venderbilt are not forthcoming on the subject, but I recall that the use of cationic alkyl quats (for hair conditioning) is not advised when using magnesium aluminum silicates for colloidal additives. There is a destabilizing effect.  I’m thinking polymeric cationics are OK with Veegum, but can’t seem to find anything on that side-bar either. This is from tribal knowledge passed onto me long ago, and I have not bothered to query the SCC journal archives yet.  I was wondering if any of you have direct knowledge of this. Please discuss.

I haven’t run into this but I also never formulated a hair conditioner with a magnesium aluminum silicate
