    Hello all,

    My formula keeps separating and I was hoping someone could tell me why..
    along with suggestions on how to fix it. The oil floats to the top.

    Water
    DMDM - 0.4
    Sodium Benzoate - 0.2
    L-Arginine - 2.5
    PG - 22
    Cellulose - 0.15
    Peppermint EO - 0.2
    Tocopherol - 0.1
    Hemp Seed Oil - 1.0
    Polysorbate 80 - 3
    Glycerin - 32
    Polyquat 7 - 7.5

    pH - 4-4.5

    Do i need to increase the polysorbate 80? Should I use polysorbate 20 instead?

    Please let me know!

    Thank you!

    It’s hard to say but some thoughts…

    1. Did you try pre-mixing the oils and polysorbate? Yes you might need more. try 4:1 ration polysorbate:oils.

    2. 7.5% Polyquat 7 is a very high amount! Typically it’s only used at 1% or less

    3. At 54%, your humectants are incredibly high. That could be causing the problem too.

    @Cosmetic_Chemist

    Glycerin - 32
    Polyquat 7 - 7.5

    What is this formula supposed to be/do?

    It is supposed to be a water-based massage oil..I know I am very lost on their formula too

    @Cosmetic_Chemist

    My goodness … what a nasty, sticky mess that is going to be.  Try switching to Poly Suga Mulse D9 instead of Polysorabte.  Start at a 3:1 ratio and increase if you need to.

    PG - 22
    Glycerin - 32

    I’m not sure, my brain is in a blur now, isn’t this water-based lube patented somewhere?

    @Cosmetic_Chemist It’d be better thay you try the formula and see how it feels, before continuing with the same structure. Also, if PG is propylene glycol, it might cause some irritation at such a high level, not to mention the stickiness.

    Btw, do hoy have a pH of 4.0-4.5 with that level of arginine?
