  • UREA 46% in cosmetic formulas

Hello, I wanted to incorporate urea for the first time in a moisturizing cream formula and the ones I found locally are not the 99% urea usually found in formulations, but rather some pearls made of 44% UREA 46% Nitrogen. Can this one work as well and is it safe to use? since I was only finding this kind indicated as a fertilizer online. Thank you !!

@Lilith The “46%N” refers to the total nitrogen content in urea itself whose molecular weight is 60. The math: (2N * 14 aw = 28) then [28 / 60] * 100 = 46.6% This is 100% urea. The 46N grade is for the farmers to understand how much nitrogen they are putting into the soil.

Be aware that fertilizer/farm grade urea will often be contaminated with rocks and dirt. It will not have the same purity as that used for cosmetics.
