Posted by Chemist5000 on September 27, 2017 at 6:19 pmWhat is possibly being used as the active(s) in the lip balms that are suppose to cause your lips to tingle. Most IL’s don’t really say

Sometimes menthol and capsaicin are used in lip plumpers.

The ingredient lists name the compounds. You just have to be experienced with the raw materials to identify them. That is where experience comes in.

Hotact VBE—-inci vanillyl butyl ether works well for lip Balms

It wasn’t an insult at all. As you see the same INCI names over and over again, you will start to be able to associate them with at minimum the product line and in many cases the actual raw material itself. It takes hours upon hours of breaking down INCI decks. I am not being pedantic, but I bet if you broke the INCI deck down eventually you would identify the active, be it Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract, some other botanical extract or even VBE. It is a learned skill.

No offense. I tear down Ingredient declarations all the time. It is like Sudoku for me now!

Do you have any specific LOI’s that you can provide? Post them here and I’m sure several of us can show you how to decipher the ingredient or combination of ingredients that are giving this effect. Although, my money is still on Liptickleate.
Is there any cinnamon in any of the products you’re looking at?

@MarkBroussard
Beeswax, essential oil blend including: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil),Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon Oil), Natural Tocopherols (vitamin e), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Oil Extract), Stevia Rebadiana Leaf Extract, Natural Flavors. Some flavors may also contain Mentha Piperia (Terpene Free Peppermint) Oil) -
Likely combination of cinnamon oil and peppermint oil.Probably Mark made a good bet on cinnamon.
-
Yes, the usual suspects in lip products that tingle are cinnamon oil and mint oils.
-
Thank you gentleman- would you suggest 0.5% of cinnamon oil and 0.5% peppermint oil?
-
Try starting off with 1.0% cinnamon and 0.5% peppermint … if that is too intense, then drop down on the cinnamon.
