  • They they have extra cetearyl alcohol?

To make LGN the molar ratio of high hlb surfactant and cetearyl alcohol should be 1:6.

If high hlb surfactant is SLS, then SLS: cetearyl alcohol weight ratio should be 1:5 which is 1:6 molar ratio.

But all SLS: cetearyl alcohol blends from big brands like Lanette® W, Emulsifying Wax BP, GINOL EW 68S, Crodex A, Primesurf CSL99 have 1:9 weight ratio of SLS: cetearyl alcohol which is 1:10 molar ratio.

Why they all have that extra cetearyl alcohol?

Suppliers don’t necessarily follow the LGN model when making those blends, they might just want to ensure more final consistency, disregarding the fact that excess fatty alcohol would crystalize in an unstable conformation within the emulsion.
