  • Technique for dissolving hpmc

    I am trying to viscose my liquid soap (45% coconut oil and 55% olive oil) with hpmc. the method applied is as follows:

    * heat water to 80°C

    *weigh the necessary quantity of hpmc

    *dissolve the hpmc in hot water (amount of water is equal to 10 times the amount of hpmc)

    * add the dissolved hpmc solution to my liquid soap which is also heated to 80°C

    * stop heating and maintain agitation for 1 hour

    the liquid soap obtained is cloudy and is not transparent

    a centrifugation test (30 rpm, 15 minutes, 3000 rpm) was carried out to test whether the liquid soap is well dissolved or not. A deposit is observed at the bottom of the tube, which shows that the hpmc is not completely dissolved in the liquid soap.

    So, I am looking for any one who can help me and have an idea how we can solve the problem or have the appropriate method for the dissolution of hpmc.

    The trade name of the hpmc used is mecelloseFMC 25002

    Close but no cigar there. Adding the HPMC to a spare amount of really hot water is the correct first step, but the next step is to then slowly add cold water until it hydrates and forms a gel. THEN you can add your other stuff, but not too much of the soap. Too much electrolyte will crash these cellulosics. Happy trails, friend.
