Technical Data Sheet “translation”- some help, please
Posted by Aniela on December 20, 2024 at 3:32 amHello,
I’m considering buying a plant extract, of interest being the % of andrographolide in it.
I do need your help with the last row of the attached photo: can that info be converted in grams per ml, please? If yes, how do I do that?
Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer. I haven’t seen those units of measurement and google isn’t bringing anything up after a 10 minute search.

hey, Aniela! to put things simply- in the extract of the plant there is an “active ingedient”, namely andrographolide. the company separates it by liquid chromatography ( hplc) and detects by mass spectronomy. that means that they guarantee that the active ingredient is more than 10% in the extract (here you can calculate how much you actually put in your product). not sure about the DM though- the first thought is - the active ingredient is expressed as dry matter ( meaning pure active ingredient, without water or anything else). let me know you need any clarifications!

Thank you, Kristiana.
So if the extract itself is present in the product at 1.5-3.5%, andrographolide makes 10% of that, right?

This product has 1.5% of leaf powder and that powder has 10% active. So if you use 10% of this product you will get 0.15% leaf powder and 0.015% active ingredient.

Math is clear, but what is the reason behind considering 1.5% as a baseline if the TDS says 1.5-3.5%?
Thank you.

Always take the value in the middle (2.5%). Now, keep in mind that your active is not water soluble, so depending on the product you want to use it, it might not work for your purpose (actually, botanicals barely live up to the claims they are preceded by 🙂

Thank you😌
I was about to go with 2%, but I will settle for the “middle”.
I know most of the extracts don’t make a difference, so I have no high expectations. The paper I’ve read (independent, they say) brings up some interesting possible effects of the andrographolide, so I’m just experimenting. Maybe in three months I’ll look like a teenager😁
