  • Sunless/Self Tanner: color, longevity & speed

    Hi All,

I’m on a tablet and I just wrote my post, then switched tabs to get ingredient lists, and it erased my post, so forgive the brevity/singular example.

We know that the two ingredients that count in a sunless tanner are dihydroxyacetone and erythulose. Erythulose, perhaps due to cost, is very rare in cheap to luxury tanner, so let’s exclude that from the discussion.

    • What causes the variation in color (post wash-off)? Shouldn’t they all yield the same color, in varying depths, based upon DHA concentration?
    • Why do some tanners last longer than others? Cutting through the advertising, people (YouTube) will do comparison swatches or test two products on two halves of their body and yield different results. (Same varied results with regard to color.)
    • How do some tanners develop faster than others? For the same depth of color, some will take one hour and some will take six. If it’s occlusives, could you elaborate on how that works?

    “Express Mousse”
Aqua (Water), Dihydroxyacetone, Caramel, Propylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Glycerin, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Decyl Glucoside, Phenoxyethanol, Melanin, Parfum (Fragrance), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Sodium Metabisulfite, Ethylhexylglycerin, Linalool, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Alpha-isomethyl Ionone, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, CI 14700 (Red 4), CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 42090 (Blue 1).

    Thanks in advance!
