Hello - I am creating a night time facial serum. Anhydrous. I am using a base of 60% squalane. The formulation is balanced and I like the end result. Is there any risk having such a high percentage of squalane. Can it cause irritation? Should I consider substituting in some fractionated coconut oil? My understanding is that normal physiological skin has approx 15% squalane. What are the implications of too much exogenous squalane?

There were some concerns with squalEne (which is naturally present in the skin), or to be more precise the light-induced peroxidation products of squalEne.
SqualAne however is available in its pure form to be applied directly onto the skin. It’s used in high concentrations in salon oil cleanses.
