  • SPF lab testing for sun cream in UK

    Good morning,
I wondered if you could point me in the right direction to get a SPF suncream tested for UK sale. I am totally green to this & have contacted a few companies. Labskin have replied and explained the cost would be 10-12K. Which unless I have a lottery win is not a possibility. I wondered if you had any suggestions or pointers that I could follow up. This all started when I looked into ideas on how to use our by product of beeswax.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly received.
Thanks so much for your time.

From personal experience, getting an SPF tested to the point it’s acceptable to sell is a time-consuming and costly business. 10-12K does seem excessive though - generally I’ve been quoted £3-4K for in-vivo testing. It’s also not unusual for the first attempt to not reach your target SPF. I’d recommend you look at either AMA Labs in the States or ProDERM in Germany for in-vivo. You can sometimes get in-vitro done for free if you ask whoever is providing your SPF blockers very nicely.

try Eurofins or Princeton Consumer Research - they routinely do this kind of test, costs are in the £3-4k ballpark
the latter are more expensive, but have a faster turnaround time
