SPF 15 lip balms - why are there so many?
I see a lot of SPF 15 lip balms on the market - but not too many higher ones. Is there something about SPF 15 that is the magical value to formulate for lip care? Is there something regulatory about testing that makes this the number that people seem to go to? Or is it an aesthetics issue - too many sunscreen actives = nasty taste, etc? I was just curious. Thanks for any thoughts!

Totally agree with you. It’s very hard to find a good lip balm with high SPF in the market. I guess it’s due the taste I high SPF lip balm would have. Some years ago I tried a SPF 50+ lip balm and it tasted HORRIBLE!
The only lip balm with a decent SPF and no bad taste that I could find is this - but its UVA protection isn’t really great:Ingredients here: -
In Australia its because above SPF15 i think it becomes a TGA product so needs a AUST L

I know I’ve tried several times - once you get much over SPF 15-20 it’s almost impossible to mask the nasty taste. The only way we got to 30 was with Zinc Oxide - which is not the look most women want on their lips…
