  • Special Equipments for highly corrosive solution?

Posted by ChemWizard on February 7, 2014 at 9:15 pm

    Hello fellow Chemists,
I just wanted to know if there is a special container or mixing equipment required for highly corrosive and highly acidic ingredients like Glycolic and Trichloro Acetic Acid ?

    Thanks

polypropylene or PTFE containers are good for storage, they’re very acid resistant

you could also use 304 or 316 grade stainless steel for glycolic acid, but TCA will corrode pretty much all types of metal

PTFE (Teflon) or glass-lined equipment and storage containers.

    Yes, we used glass-lined equipment.

    Thanks Perry.
Actually, even in glass container, I saw a reaction Which is beyond my understanding.
A TCA solution, dispersed in water, reacted badly with polysorbate(Presolubilized with retinol +fragrance) giving it a dirty green color sediment.
This solution also had some SD Alcohol in it..Any guess what’s causing such sediments?
