Solubilisation ability of some solubilisers
I have read that PEG-40 hydrogenated Castor oil (PEG40 HCO) is a gold-standard solubiliser; a benchmark against which other solubilisers are compared. I looked up at the HLB value of PEG40HCO and read “15”, but upon reading the HLB value of polysorbate 80 (P80), I read that P80 also has an HLB value of 15.
If PEG40 HCO is reputed to have better solubilisation ability than polysorbate 80, what is the reason for this, seeing that the reported HLB values of both are the same?
