  • Sodium Ascorbyl Phospate soluble in oil?

    Hello All!
I’ve been trying to make a facial oil for my own use, based on the ingredients of a brand I like.  I’ve purchased all the ingredients already, see the ingredient list below:

Ingredients: Organic Oryza Sativa, (ricebran) Organic Rosa Mosqueta, (rosehip oil) French Calcium, Wild Crafted Rosa Damascena, Organic Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Organic Helichrysum Gymnocephalum, (helichrysum oil) Wild Crafted Santalum Album (sandalwood) Oil

I’m stopped up now at the point of adding Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate because I thought it was only soluble in water.  Yet, the ingredient list above does not have any water in it.  Does this make sense?  Can sodium ascorbyl phosphate dissolve in oil?

I am wondering how they obtained “Organic Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate.”

lol.  One among the many curiosities in this formulation.   French Calcium is pretty funny.

French Calcium is their bastardization of Calcium Ketogluconate. Is this the Holi(oil) Refining Youth Serum Agent Nateur? https://www.agentnateur.com/collections/products

@Microformulation - to be fair, sodium ascorbyl phosphate is an organic molecule containing numerous C-H bonds.  Of course, organic chemistry has little to do with the way “organic” is used in the marketplace.

Yes it is!  It’s actually a pretty nice product. so i just wanted to recreate it for myself because it’s so expensive.  I just don’t understand the vitamin c part.

@Perry While I agree with the Organic Chemistry analogy, I am quite sure that the USDA has a differing opinion.  :D :D :D

@Microformulation - Any thoughts on my original question?  Or am I not allowed to ask that?  Sorry I’m new to this forum.

The best guess I can make is that they dispersed the SAP into the oil base. I don’t see significant aquesous phase for any other option.

They likely used P2O5 during Phosphation process which means you have 70/30 mixture of mono and diesters which can easily be added to the oil phase.
