  • Soap Foaming On Serum Issue With Essential Oil

Hi everyone, I want to introduce essential oil to my water based gel serum formula. However I face challenge since solubiliser is required. I found out even low dosage of solubiliser can cause soapy foam when rub on hands, which was done in separate small batch with only solubiliser and water. So I thought it was solubiliser issue and try switching different raw mat and even use combination, but soapy-ness still there.

Then I did another small batch with only essential oil, pentylene glycol and water, the result also give me soapy-ness…

So now I assume the soapy-ness came from both solubiliser and essential oil? If anyone have experience on this please help because I really want to introduce essential oil, though I have seem some in market samples.

Note that I can get solubiliser and essential oil ratio, but just the soapy foam thing appear everytime.

    Hello,

What percent of essential oil and solubilizer are you trying to use?

Have you tried using a mix of Polysorbate 20 and PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil? We use a ratio of 1:1:1, Polysorbate 20 : PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil : Oil phase. This gives us a clear product without soaping.
