Shampoo Formula
Good day,
I want to create my own hair shampoo is this what I have, what do you think??
Water (75%)
(Detergent) Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (18%)
(Foam Booster) Cocamidopropyl Betaine (3.5%)
(Thickeners) Sea Salt (0.5%)
(Preservatives) Tea Tree Oil (2%)
Other ingredients: Rosemary Oil (0.25%)
Lavender Oil (0.25%)I’m not sure about the Tea tree oil as a preservative and I’m also not sure about Sea Salt as a thickener, what is your take?

I like the use of the Sarcosinate as it should provide a tight soap-lather.Tea tree Oil as preservative I am extremely skeptical it would pass USP 51:Sea salt may be okay but I have not used it.I would add a chelate such as Na2 EDTA for any heavy metals present from sea water.

Tea tree oil at 2% is far too high. I make a tea tree shampoo and I use 0.2%. Actually with three different essential oils it MAY be sufficiently preserved but you would need to test it. I advise adjusting the pH to 4.5 and adding 0.3% sodium benzoate to make sure. I would also add 1% herbal fragrance, the three essential oils combined will not be very attractive (been there, done that).

@Belassi, pH 4.5 isn’t too risky considering the scalp and hair pH is 4.5-5.5? Just asking, don’t get me wrong.
As @DRBOB@VERDIENT.BIZ said, I’d add 0.1%-0.2% Na2 EDTA -
pH 4.5 is no problem at all for a shampoo or skin product.

The active matter of your shampoo seems on the low side so you may want to increase the level of surfactants. Can I ask why you included salt in the formula? Salt will not thicken this sulfate-free formula. Do reduce the oil level as this lead to solubilisation issues and also depresses foam. Also check you are complaint with IFRA with regard to your fragrance. Do add a broad spectrum preservative and disodium EDTA as others have stated.
