  • Retesting a Formula

We currently have a bath creme that we want to reformulate to have more lather and foam. Would I be correct in assuming that any change to the formula, addition of a new raw ingredient, change in percentages of raws currently in the formula… will require new testing for the formula? hRIPT, Micro challenge and stability? Or is there a threshold that I can stay within to not have to retest?

    Thanks!

    Any?  No.
Most folks consider and qualify formulas as families based on risk assessment

    Thanks PhilGeis.
The formula we are looking to reformulate has already passed all testing and is in the market. We are just now looking to make improvements and be able to launch it. As I am not a formulator and more of a regulatory person, I am trying to understand if there is a threshold for which retesting wont be required due to timing. I am of the mind that we will need to retest if the formula is changing particularly if we are adding new raws and/or adjusting the water content.

We retested a formula (stability testing which also involved micro challenge test) whenever

    1. new raw material supplier
    2. new ingredient
    3. new manufacturing method
    4. cost savings formulation changes
