  • Recent L’Oreal Micro Failure? (WARNING - Link Contains Bad Language)

I thought the forum might be interested in this discussion on Reddit about a substantial skin (and probably lung) exposure to mold (and probably also bacteria) from an Urban Decay cosmetic.  According to Wikipedia, Urban Decay is a L’Oreal brand.  It makes me wonder how isolated this one event is.  Hopefully very isolated, but my professional experience leads me to doubt that.

Of course, the incident has not been verified, but I have no reason to suspect the person made it up.

The link is on the “TIFU” subreddit, which stands for “today I f***ed up.”  You were warned, there is bad language on that page.  Be further warned that content on other Reddit pages ranges from tame and funny to completely not safe for work.

    Here’s the link (http://www.reddit.com/r/tifu/comments/29kf2p/tifu_by_unknowingly_spraying_mold_on_my_face/)

What a great reminder to challenge test those cosmetics and manufacture in clean environments!!!

TIFU by unknowingly spraying mold on my face every day for weeks.

I read through that thread.  Interesting that it was a big company like L’Oreal.

Perry I agree.  Typically the bigger companies know the risks micro poses well enough that they do adequate microbiological stability testing of their formulations.  I think that perhaps this one fell through the cracks because they acquired the company (and the formulation) recently.
