  • PreservX - New Patented Clean Preservative System?

Posted by spadirect on August 3, 2020 at 9:16 pm

Does anyone have experience using PerservX or any of its constituent ingredients as a broad spectrum anti-microbial preservation system?

Does PreservX or its constituent ingredients also provide antifungal protection?

What range of pH is PreservX or its constituent ingredients effective?

Codex Beauty patented PreservX as a food grade broad spectrum preservation system for use in skin, hair and nail formulations that contain water (per article in Cometicsdesignusa.com, July 30, 2020).

Any comments, opinion or discussion regarding PerservX or any of its constituent ingredients for the purpose of providing emulsion products broad spectrum anti-microbial and antifungal protection would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Do you have a link to information about the ingredient?

I wouldn’t have any faith that this would be a reliable preservative.
It’s new, so it is unproven.  How did they prove that it is safe?

Just because something has a patent doesn’t mean that it is safe and effective. It doesn’t take much to get a patent.

They claim that it is edible which means that some microbe will be able to eat it, so that it’s probably not going to be much of a preservative.

Just my view based on reading their press release.

It’s basically AMTicide plus salicylate or sorbate plus propanediol (at pH 4.5-5.5).
IMHO this combo is likely already contained in some products on the market. In which case, that patent is nil.
I wouldn’t trust such a preservative blend although it might work with 10% propanediol…
