What are some different ways to extend the freshness of fragrance oils?

Typically I use tocopherol but in my current project it is making the body wash slightly brownish even at 0.3%, so i am wondering is there anything else I can use that won’t have an effect on the color?

Not all body washes/shampoos seem to have tocopherol in them, is it even necessary?

Define fragrance oil.  (I mean… are you using EO’s as fragrance…or using a synthetic fragrance oil?)

Extend freshness….does this mean keep from oxidizing, or you want fragrance extension (fixative)?

AntiOx’s work in the phase they are soluble in…. so you have to match your antiOx with the solubility of what you are trying to protect.

In this particular case i am using synthetic fragrance, but there are times i use EO’s.

And I am solubilizing the fragrance oil into polysorbate 80 and dropping that into the body wash right before the preservative.

@GeorgeBenson Did you check if that browning of the base occurs even without Tocopherol?

In our experience, we found that at the same dose, Tinogard TL was way more effective at preventing fragrance change than Tocopherols, in both shampoos and conditioners, and that’s the AOx we use now in all our line.

You may be alluding to fragrance fixation synonymous with “extension” here? In that case, triethyl citrate is an excellent fixative as is ethylhexylglycerin. Both are inexpensive and may be readily solubilized in surfactant systems also.

@ketchito the browning only occurs with the addition if tocopherol. Tinogard TL seems like a great ingredient but I am small time and cant order things like that in bulk.

@chemicalmatt yes, and you know i use 9010 at 1%, would that provide enough ethylhexylglycerin to do the job? I also have TEC, i can try that as well.

    thanks!
